Carl Abel

(Due to the inclement weather, the following changes have occurred:)  Funeral services for Carl M. Abel, 80, of Eudora, KS will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, February 3, 2011 at the Eudora United Methodist Church in Eudora, KS. Burial will follow in Eudora Cemetery in Eudora, KS. He died on Saturday, January 29, 2011 at Lawrence Memorial Hospital in Lawrence. 

He was born on March 2, 1930 in Lawrence, KS, the son of Otto and Sarah Neis Abel.

Mr. Abel was a 1947 graduate of Eudora High School. He was a Korean War veteran, serving in the U.S. Air Force from 1951-1955. He retired as a staff sergeant.

He was a retired electrician at Farmland Industries in Lawrence. He worked there from 1955 until his retirement in 1992. While working at Farmland, he also continued to farm east of Eudora on the Johnson County line, until his health did not permit that any longer.

Mr. Abel enjoyed fishing, hunting, trapping and ballgames for his children and grandchildren.

He was married to Geraldine “Jerry” Langan on January 6, 1951 in Johnson County. She survives of the home.

Other survivors include a daughter, Jackie Abel, of Lawrence, KS, a son, Carlie and wife, Anita Abel, of Eudora, two sisters; Elva Kindred, of Eudora, KS, Marion Shutt, of Lawrence and three grandchildren; Douglas Abel, Sarah Abel Meador, and Luke Abel. He was preceded in death by a son, Darrell M. Abel on February 7, 1999. He was also preceded in death by his parents, three sisters and a brother.  

The family will greet friends from 9:30 – 11 a.m. Thursday at the Eudora United Methodistl.

The family suggests memorials in his name to the Eudora United Methodist Church and may be sent in care of the Warren-McElwain Mortuary in Lawrence.
