Graveside services for Aaron “Art” Arthur Transue, 90, Lawrence will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, August 18, 2014 at Oak Hill Cemetery in Lawrence. He died Monday, August 11, 2014 at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.

Aaron was born June 2, 1924 in North Lawrence, KS the son of Aaron and Hattie Ann (Harvey) Transue.

Aaron enlisted when he was 17 years old and served his country in the United States Navy during WWII. Serving during both theatres, he was severely wounded in Normandy.

He moved to Lawrence in 1945 after leaving the Navy.

He worked for Southwestern Bell/AT&T Telephone as a switchman for 38 years until he retired in 1984.

He was a life member of the VFW. He enjoyed fishing, gardening, and cooking. He volunteered for Douglas County Senior Services with meal delivery.

He married Mary Catherine Phillips on June 14, 1946 in Lawrence, KS. She preceded him in death January 13, 1994.

Survivors include one daughter, Mary Jane (Michael) Alexander; two sons, Charles A. (Mary) Transue, and James L. (Susan) Transue; four grandchildren, Oliver Russell Alexander, Renee Louise Stanley, Jennifer Ann Harter, Emily Catherine Blevins; and four great grandchildren, Mackenzie, Aaron, Landon, and Walter . He was also preceded in death by his parents; three infant siblings; three brothers; and two sisters.

The family will greet friends from 2 – 4 p.m. Sunday, August 17, 2014 at Warren-McElwain Mortuary in Lawrence.

The family suggests memorial contributions in his name to Douglas County Senior Services, American Cancer Society, or Wounded Warrior Project and may be sent in care of the mortuary.

    Dear Friends,
    Barbara and I We send our condolences to the family and friends. Our prayers go with him and yourselves. We have just learned of Art’s passing away from Martha Bayne. I knew and liked Art very much as the father of my friend Charles A. Transue.
