Anthony Joseph “Joe” Poe

Celebration of Life for Anthony Joseph “Joe” Poe, 58, Lawrence will be held from 4:30 – 6:00 p.m. Sunday, February 22, 2015 at the Lawrence Public Library Auditorium. He passed away Sunday, February 15, 2015 at Midland Care Hospice House in Topeka, KS.

Joe was born October 22, 1956 in Kansas City, MO the son of Robert Allen and Barbara Jean (Woods) Poe.

He graduated Truman High School in 1974.

Joe served his country in the United States Army and Navy during the Vietnam War.

He was a gunsmith, leathersmith, musician and songwriter. He enjoyed motorcycling, being outdoors where he would hunt and fish, and watching KU basketball.

He was a courier driver for a logistics company.

He married Patti Jan (Wiggins) Poe September 25, 2010 in Lawrence, KS. She survives of the home.

Other survivors include his mother-in-law, Georgia Mae Aldridge; son, Zachary Levi Poe; stepson, Aaron Joseph Mersmann; six grandchildren; three sisters, Teresa Harter, Paula Coleman, Loretta Criscione; one brother, Timothy Poe; and one half-brother, Robert Allen Poe, Jr. He was preceded in death by his parents; and stepson, Adam Thomas Mersmann.

Memorial contributions may be made in his name to the Midland Hospice in Topeka and may be sent in care of the mortuary.
