Lena D. Overbaugh

Funeral services for Lena D. Overbaugh, 96, Lawrence will be held at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, January 17, 2017 at Warren-McElwain Mortuary in Lawrence. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery. She passed away Thursday, January 12, 2017 at Presbyterian Manor in Lawrence.

Lena was born August 11, 1920 in Booker, TX the daughter of Lafe and Jessie Pearl (Benton) James.

She married Phillip C. Overbaugh January 8, 1937 in Ottawa, KS. He preceded her in death November 7, 2003.

She worked as a bookkeeper for All Star Dairy and later for Diamond Lumber Company. She was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Lawrence.

She enjoyed playing cards, gardening, canning, and cooking. She was an avid reader and a dog lover.

Survivors include her daughter, Bettie Diehl, Lawrence; five grandchildren, Kevan Sprow, Denise Sprow-Harris, Greg Diehl, Debra Diehl, and Barry Sprow; seven great grandchildren, and seven great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Ruby M. Harper and Opal R. Wilson; a daughter, Phyllis Berndt; and a great-grandchild, Cory Sprow.

The family will greet friends from 1:30 p.m. until service time on Tuesday, January 17th at the mortuary.

Memorials may be made in her name to Lawrence Humane Society or Grace Hospice and may be sent in care of the Warren-McElwain Mortuary.
