Lucy Lee Walker

Funeral services for Lucy Lee Walker, 84, of Lawrence will be held on Wednesday, September 28, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at Warren-McElwain Mortuary in Lawrence. She departed this life on Wednesday, September 21, 2016. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery.

Lucy was born August 2, 1932 in Hollandale, MS, the third of thirteen siblings to James and Lillie B. Clark. Lucy later moved to Jackson where she attended Jackson State University for several years. While attending the university she was introduced to her future husband Edward B. Walker by his sister Lillian Bowman. They later married on May 17, 1955. This union was blessed with eight beautiful children.

As a homemaker, Lucy enjoyed making and selling flowers, gardening, and crocheting. Travelling, singing, pinching and eating McDonalds each found a spot at the top of her most favorite things to do list. Lucy’s distinct beautiful smile, coupled with a soft and sweet spirit, along with that look that needed no words, yet spoke volumes, and lastly that continuous search for that “Pretty Old Man” by this “Pretty Lady” will be sincerely missed by all.

Lucy was preceded in death by her parents, James and Lillie, her husband Edward, brothers Doyle and Philemon Clark and sisters Ruth Glover and Ollie B. Smith. Lucy leaves behind to cherish her precious and loving memories four sons; Joseph B. (Brenda) Walker, Dallas, TX, Edward B. Walker, Albuquerque, NM, Larry Walker, San Diego, CA, James V. Walker, Silver Spring, MD; four daughters Yvonne (Timothy) Tubbs, Odenton, MD, Beatrice Walker, Secillian (Johnathan) Machoni, both of Austin, TX, and Kathy (Roderick) King, Houston, TX. Lucy also leaves 19 amazingly wonderful grandchildren, Tamis, Trace, Edwina, Tiffany, Brian, La’Keshia, Jasmine, Shauntae, Stephen, Alicia, Brianna, Faith, Ariel, William, Danielle, Kiana, Geneva, Matthew and Mia:14 precious great-grandchildren Frank, Jacob, Faith, Janna, Farrah, Matthew, Zion, Aleia, Andrell, Angelina, Adrian, Aasia, Aaron, Aayden, Levi, Sadie, as well as six sisters Rosie Shorter, Josephine Galloway, Queen (Collin) Shorter, Lillian (Gary) Cooper, and Mary Rials, all of Lawrence, Addiest (Alfred) Rouse, Chicago, IL, and Bernice Zachary, St. Louis, MO; along with one brother, Lloyd G. Clark, Hutchison, KS and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.

It is comforting to know that while here Lucy “Swept Around Her Own Front Door”, and with a grateful heart we all know that she found that man she was looking for in Christ Jesus and now she has her “Cabin in the Corner of Glory Land”.

The family will welcome family and friends on Tuesday, September 27th from 6 – 8 p.m. at Warren-McElwain Mortuary in Lawrence, KS.

Joe and family – Brenda, Tamis, and Trace our thoughts and prayers are with you even if we cannot be there to celebrate your Mom’s homegoing. Sis Lucy was a quiet spirit but very inspiring. She will be the rose that sits in the midst of the garden, making no noise but just showing its beauty. As you celebrate her life, know that she is not gone but lives forever in your hearts.
