M. Coleen Tabbert

Funeral services for M. Coleen Tabbert, Lawrence will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, March 26, 2015 at Warren-McElwain Mortuary. Burial will be follow in Oak Hill Cemetery. She passed away after a courageous fight on March 20, 2015 at her home in Lawrence, KS.

She was born in Altus, AR the daughter of Robert Walter and Mildred Pauline (Wood) Estes.

She was a licensed Cosmetologist, homemaker and an avid community volunteer. She was very involved and was on committees and chaired many of them for the North Lawrence Improvement Association. She was an election volunteer and was still involved with the Woodlawn School fundraising. She was a liaison for the KU Big Event Community Outreach. She always enjoyed being outdoors gardening with her flowers. She enjoyed early morning coffee on the porch. She was an amazing listener and had a beautiful smile.

She married Marvin “Barney” Tabbert on March 6, 1978. He survives of the home.

Other survivors include a daughter, Tamara Parris-Marsh husband, Jim of Oskaloosa; her mother, Mildred Morris of Lawrence; two grandchildren, Parris Olivia Marsh and Cooper Frederick Marsh; two brothers, Robert Doss Estes and Paul Denton Estes both of Tonganoxie; three sisters, Joyce Chrisman, Shirley Weeks and Marilou Bond all of Lawrence; and many beloved nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father and a brother.

The family will greet friends from 6 to 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, March 25, 2015 at the mortuary.

Memorial contributions may be made in her name to VNA Hospice and may be sent in care of the mortuary.

    Barney and Tammy, Jack and I are very sorry for your loss, our thoughts and prayers are with you !! I loved being her neighbor, She was like a 2nd mom to me. I remember countless times we used to sit outside on the porch and visit for hours, and hours.. I’m glad to have known her, she was a great women.. I’m going to miss the laughter in the neighborhood, she was such a joy to be around. If you guys need anything please let Jack or I know, we’re here for you..

She was my confidant , we spent many hours telling each other our dreams, problems and many talks about our families…I loved her so much. She will be greatly missed in our neighborhood.     Barney, Tammy & Family: Very sad to hear of the loss of your wife, mother, friend and confidant. Coleen was one of the first persons I met when I was first married and living in the Perry community. She totally made me feel comfortable and was a very gracious, kind and loving woman to me! Although I had not seen her in a very long time, my memories of that first meeting are still vivid in my mind!     I am so sorry about the loss of Coleen. I know it doesn’t matter how prepared we are for loss, it still hurts. Know that you are all loved and we want the best for you.     So sorry to hear of Coleen’s passing! I wish I was able to make it to see her before she passed. I’m also so sorry we were out of town during her visitation and funeral.
