Mary Alice Cook

Funeral services for Mary Alice Cook, 81, Lawrence will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, April 25, 2015 at Warren-McElwain Mortuary in Lawrence. Burial will follow at 2:00 p.m. Olive Branch Cemetery in White Cloud, KS. She passed away Tuesday, April 21, 2015 at Tonganoxie Nursing Home.

Mary was born July 26, 1933 in Doniphan County, KS the daughter of Charles E. and Alice Belle (Raney) Waggoner.

She had many prestigious jobs including hotel wait staff at Osawatomie, KS, wait staff at Chris William’s Café, and Bill’s Cafe. After leaving wait staff employment she worked at Farm Bureau Magazine preparing address labels. She also worked at Footware and K-Mart as a manager over the Fleet Truck Lines, overseeing and dispatching trucks to outlaying stores. After retirement, she was a homemaker and helped her husband, Harry O. (Jr.) in the garden at their home in North Lawrence.

Mary Alice was very well known for her baking, canning, and candy making.

She married Harry Cook August 29, 1951 in Highland, KS. She is survived by Harry of the home, and many nieces and nephews. She is surpassed by her parents, Charles and Alice Waggoner, sister, Lucille, six brothers, Max, Kenneth “Bo”, Eugene “Bean”, William “Bill”, Robert, and Sam.

The family will greet friends from 6 – 8 p.m. Friday, April 24th at the mortuary.

Memorial contributions may be made in her name to Lawrence Humane Society and may be sent in care of Warren-McElwain Mortuary.
