Mass of Christian Burial for Matt Nutter, 29, Lawrence will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, January 24, 2017 at Corpus Christi Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Lawrence. He passed away Thursday, January 19, 2017 at the University of Kansas Medical Center.
Matt was born July 9, 1987 in Parsons, KS the son of David and Ann (Scaletty) Nutter.
Matt graduated from Free State High School in 2005 and later graduated from Pittsburg State University in 2013.
He was a Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist and worked at Pinnacle Ridge Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Olathe, KS.
He was an avid sports fan and always enjoyed the Chiefs, Jayhawks, and Royals. He enjoyed playing golf.
Survivors include his parents, David and Ann Nutter, Lawrence; his sister, Meghan Nutter of Lawrence; his maternal grandmother, Pat Scaletty, Lawrence, KS, his paternal grandparents, Gary and Bev Nutter of Parsons, KS. He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Jim Scaletty.
A Rosary will be recited at 6 p.m. followed a visitation until 7:30 p.m. Monday, January 23rd at Warren-McElwain Mortuary in Lawrence.
Memorials may be made in his name to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis, TN and may be sent in care of the Warren-McElwain Mortuary 120 W. 13th St. Lawrence, KS 66044.
David, Ann and family, we are so sorry to hear of the passing of Matt. You are in our thoughts and prayers. May God hold you close and comfort you.
So very sorry to hear of this. I only knew Matt through my aunt Melissa, but I know he was so special to her. Prayers for your family and all that loved and knew Matt.
I am so very sorry about this tragedy. A parent should never have to bury his or her child. I have been keeping you all in my prayers since I heard of this. God bless you and keep you close.

We are so sorry to hear about the death of your son, Matt. Here are some words that can be of comfort. John 5:28,29 “Do not be amazed at this , for the hour is coming in which all in the memorial tombs will hear his voice and come out…… This will be an amazing, thrilling time!
I had the pleasure of teaching Matt at both Southwest and Free State. He was a lovely young man. His perservence and grace in the face of obstacles was phenomenal. My love and prayers are with you.

I worked with Matt both in the classroom and in basketball at Southwest Jr. High. I remember him being a great kid who was loved by his peers. I am truly sorry for your loss and just want you to know that he left a positive mark on the lives of many, including myself.
Prayers for all of us left with his memories. Knew Matt for a short time through his attendance at Chapel Oaks SDA church. Many loved him and admired him. There was an informative story of his brief time with us during our church service. I am so glad he knew Jesus. We will meet again in heaven. Blessings and love to all.
Matt is a graduate of St. John School. Our school is saddened by his death. We will always cherish our memories of a very sweet boy. God grant him eternal peace.

I’m deeply saddened to hear of Matt’s passing. He is an amazing person that could warm a room with his smile and humor. You and your family are in our thoughts and prayers.
Dear Ann, Dave, Meghan and Family, We love you all and are so sorry for the loss of Matt. As your neighbor for so many years we feel so honored to have known Matt and to have witnessed first hand the kind of person he was. Always a smile, showed us kindness and respect every time we were together and never hesitated to let everyone see the love he had for his family. We will miss him. I am so sorry to hear of Matt’s passing. I had the privilege of teaching Matt at Free State High School and I will always remember his quiet courage and grace. He had to miss a lot of school that year, but he was so persistent about staying on track with the class. I wrote a short story for Matt to take home to practice the differences between the preterite and the imperfect. Every year, since then, when I pull it out, I think about him.
I can’t imagine the heartache being felt by your family right now. Try to stay strong and lean on all that are close to you. Your family hasn’t left my mind since Thursday morning.
Condolences to all your family on the passing of Matt. He will be remembered by his kind, gentle spirit. I never heard him complain about the trials he was going through. He patiently endured. Matt truly will be missed. My prayers are with you and may the good memories carry you through all the coming days.

Angelina was born the same year as Matt.
I lost my daughter, Sabrina two years ago last November.
Believe me, I know how you feel.
We lost Sabrina from CVS (Civalic Vomiting Sydrome)
Like you, I spent many days than I care to remember in the emergency room. Unfortunatley, there is no no cure for CVS.
So, I am familiar with your pain. It made it easier when Sabrina died because she is no longer sick, and is in a better place.
I will not lie, it does not become better as time goes by, but it does become bearable.
