Melanie Ann Cromwell

MELANIE ANN CROMWELL

Melanie passed away on December 2, 2016, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.

She was born April 29, 1946 in Ottawa, Kansas to Earl Harold and Jean (Cook) Phares. After graduating from Ottawa High School, she attended Pittsburgh State University.

Melanie met Richard W. Cromwell in 1968 and they married May 31, 1969. They had one child, Christa Ann, and lived in Lawrence.
After eight years as a realtor for Stephens Real Estate, Melanie went on to work for the University of Kansas, event coordinating for thirty-three years.

She enjoyed bird watching, spending time with her horses and playing with her twin grandchildren. Melanie was known for her amazing recall of dates and events.

She was preceded in death by her brother, Earl Craig Phares, and she is survived by her devoted husband Richard; her daughter Christa (Michael) Hoesch of Lawrence; twin grandchildren, Parker and Presley of Lawrence; two stepdaughters, three step-grandchildren and several cousins.

Melanie fought bravely through a variety of illnesses. She is remembered for her determination, sense of adventure and nurturing personality. She will be greatly missed.

A rosary will be recited at 3pm, followed by a visitation from 3:30-5pm, on Thursday, December 8, 2016 at Corpus Christi Catholic Church. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10am, Friday, December 9, 2016 at Corpus Christi Catholic Church, with burial immediately following in Mt. Calvary Cemetery.

Memorials may be made in Melanie’s name to the American Cancer Society and sent in c/o Warren-McElwain Mortuary.

    Melanie will truly be missed. She was my mother away from home when I lived in Lawrence and I have so many great memories of wonderful times with this family. My prayers go out to all of you.

    Although we only knew Melanie for the sort time Larry was at Pioneer Ridge after hip surgery knowing you both brightened the stay there. The meals we ate together were certainly more enjoyable because they were shared with you. Her charm and your personality and devotion to her were heartwarming.
    They are gone now. I count my blessings for the time together.

    So sorry for your Loss Richard I was your old neighbor on 1100 Rd so sorry to hear this lost my sister to cancer April of 2015 it is very hard to see your family member battle cancer my heart goes out to you and your family prayers for all Diana Huseby
