Mildred L. Purvis

Family memorial services for Mildred L. Purvis age 86, will be held at a late date in Honolulu, Hawaii. Mildred passed away on June 15, 2015 in Baldwin City, KS.

She was born on August 29, 1928 in Heeia, Hawaii. She spent her early years in Hawaii and received most of her education there. She moved to Baldwin City in January 1947 and attended both Kansas City and Johnson County Community Colleges. Mildred was a homemaker until she began a 29-year career at the United States Postal Service in Lawrence, Kansas, retiring in 1993. Throughout her life, she served the community and church with volunteer services and, in later years, served at the Baldwin City Public Library and Senior Center. Her hobbies included playing bridge and scrabble, cooking, and gardening.

She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Matsue Choy and son, Fred C. Purvis, Jr. She was also preceded in death by brothers, George Choy, Frank Choy, Ben Choy; and sister, Margaret Roper.

She is survived by two sons and three daughters-in-law; John (Debby) Purvis of Derby, Kansas and Mike (Leslie) Purvis of Austin, Texas and Linda Diane Purvis of Scottsdale, Arizona. Mildred is also “Nana” to six grandchildren; and ten great grandchildren.

She is also survived by brothers, Abraham (Sue) Choy of Kailua, Hawaii and Russell Choy of Honolulu, Hawaii and sisters Amy (Les) Nunes of Kailua, Hawaii and Marcella (Tom) Trautmann of Ann Arbor, Michigan.

    My thoughts are with the Purvis family. I have so many fond memories of Mildred. Always had a sweet smile on her face. She and my mom played cards together for many years. RIP Mildred, you fought a hard battle.

    I will miss Millie on the trips and monthly lunch bunch she attended with me at Baldwin City Recreation. She always had a smile on her face. My life is brighter with knowing such a wonderful angel.
