Mona Teresa (Sisson) Gower

Memorial service for Mona Teresa (Sisson) Gower, 46, of De Soto, KS will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, April 29, 2016 at Warren-McElwain Mortuary – Eudora Chapel in Eudora. She passed away peacefully in her home on Monday, April 25th, 2016, surrounded by family. She was born on September 9th, 1969 in Lawrence, KS to parents Ronald and Patty Sisson. Mona married Dennis Gower on June 23rd, 1990. Together they had two children, Troy, 29, and Kelsie, 24. Also joined by their marriage were step-children Jake and Jonathon Gower.

Over the years, Mona was a devoted wife and mother to her children. Mona was often found coaching her daughter’s softball games, playing outdoor sports with her children and husband, watching sports, having family game nights, and visiting family in Stockton, MO. Mona spent her life devoting herself to those she loved most. Mona was a loyal employee to the companies she served across the years. Although she was a hard worker, she always remained humble, and gave more compliments than she would accept for herself. Later in life, Mona’s devotion shifted to her two granddaughters, Kaylee, 4, and Claire, 3. You could often find them reading books, swinging and blowing bubbles outside, singing songs, and sharing hugs and kisses. Kaylee and Claire adore their “Gigi” and they were the light of her life.

As a testament to Mona’s drive and dedication to succeed, Mona started on a journey to further her education, and successfully completed this journey to receive an Associate of Applied Science degree in business administration in May of 2015. Regardless of difficult circumstances, Mona remained spirited, never relinquishing her strength and dedication.

Mona is survived by her husband, Dennis Gower; son, Troy Gower and wife Katie Gower; daughter Kelsie Gower and fiancé Ashley Logan; grand-daughters Kaylee Gower and Claire Gower; step-sons Jake and Jonathon Gower and their families; mother-in-law, JoEtta Gower and father-in-law, Eugene Gower; sisters, Becky Lobner, Rhonda Kraus, and Terri Berry; many beloved nieces, nephews, and cousins; and her loyal companion, Toast.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Ronald Eugene Sisson and Patty Sue Sisson; sister, Kimmy Jo Jennings; and niece, Jeryka Raean Lawrence.

The family will greet friends at 1:00 p.m. one hour prior to the service on Friday at the mortuary.

In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the Lawrence Humane Society at Mona’s request, to honor her love for animals. Lawrence Human Society, 1805 E. 19th Street, Lawrence, KS 66046, Phone: 785-843-6835, lawrencehumane.org or may be sent in care of Warren-McElwain Mortuary, 120 W. 13th Street, Lawrence, KS 66044.

I miss her smile, the silly names she gave me with each email. No matter what was going on in her life, she was always cheerful and sweet. We became good friends by being pen pals! And when we did get a chance to visit, I couldn’t wait. I’ve never known anyone so loving with such great family traditions as Mona. Every weekend she had something going on with the kids and their families. I used to tell her how I envied her for that! I just wish we would have had more time together. The last words of the last message she sent me was on April17th, she wrote “Love you Trudy”. I will never delete that message. I’m am so sorry for the pain of missing her right now, just remember, we will all see her again. And never doubt, she will be right beside you, watching over you, as your Guardian Angel. With sympathy and love to the Gower Family… Mona’s friend…Trudy

It is that rare blessing when you have an opportunity to work with an individual who made each day special with her ‘sunshine e-mail messages’. It was a privilege to have been a part of Mona’s work life. She will be missed by many. Our thoughts and prayers are with her family and friends.
