Rex Belmont Nicolay

Mass of Christian Burial for Rex Belmont Nicolay, 84, Eudora will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, April 18, 2015, at Holy Family Catholic Church in Eudora. Burial will follow at Holy Family Catholic Cemetery. He passed away Tuesday, April 14, 2015, at his home in Eudora with his wife and family by his side.

Rex was born September 3, 1930 in Lawrence, KS the son of Bernard Gayle and Gladys (Beebe) Nicolay.

He graduated from Liberty Memorial High School in 1949. He attended the University of Kansas before entering into the United States Army during the Korean War from 1951 – 1953.

He was a life-time member of the Dorsey-Liberty Post 14 American Legion.

He worked for Morgan Mack Motor Company, Beedles Motor Company, and Hercules Sunflower Army Ammunition Plant where he worked for 29 years before retiring as the Chief Fire and Security Officer. Rex also loved farming, raising cattle, and spending time with his family.

He married Mary Ann Schehrer October 2, 1954 in Eudora at Holy Family Catholic Church. She survives of the home. Rex and Mary Ann observed their 60th wedding anniversary October 2, 2014.

Other survivors include two sons, Mark A. Nicolay, Eudora, Monte K. (Lori) Nicolay, Spring Hill, KS; three grandsons, Jason (Lisa) Nicolay, Zachary Nicolay, Jacob Nicolay; and three great grandchildren, Emme, Camden, and Weston Nicolay.

There will be a prayer service at 6 p.m. with a visitation to follow until 8 p.m. Friday at Warren-McElwain Mortuary – Eudora Chapel in Eudora.

Memorial contributions may be made in his name to Holy Family Catholic Church Building Fund and may be sent in care of the mortuary.

    Rex was a great friend and person . l worked with him at hercules for a long time. I was in 510 warehouse and used to pass thru the guard shack to catch the bus where he was at a lot of the time. Sorry for your loss.
