Robert “Bob” B. Abbott

Mass of Christian Burial for Robert B. “Bob” Abbott, 87, Olathe will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, January 24, 2017 at St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Olathe, KS. Military graveside services will follow at Shawnee Memory Gardens in Shawnee, KS. He passed away Thursday, January 19, 2017 at his home.

Bob was born July 30, 1929 in Olathe, KS, the son of Robert S. and Una (Chamberlin) Abbott.

He served his country in the United States Navy during the Korean War. He served on the submarine, USS Sea Poacher.

He was a 1957 graduate of the University of Kansas, School of Engineering and was a member of the KU Alumni Association Jayhawk Society.
Bob loved to paint, to fish, and he loved dogs.

He was an electrical engineer for the Bendix Corporation and later Allied Signal in Kansas City for 40 years. He retired in 1997.
He was married to Pat Carroll on September 6, 1954. She preceded him in death in 1974. He later married JoNell “Jody” Ward Cain Abbott on March 10, 1979. She survives of the home.

Other survivors include his son, Paul (wife, Jill) Abbott of Olathe, KS, step-daughters, Susan E. McElwain, Lawrence, KS, Carolyn B. Johnson, North Kansas City, three step-sons, Darrell W. Cain, Dallas, TX, Charles E. Cain, Overland Park, KS, Steven L. Cain, Plano, TX, nineteen grandchildren; and nine great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one grandson, Darrell David Cain and one sister, Helen Godfrey.

The family will greet friends from 9 a.m. – 10 a.m. Tuesday at the church. He will also lie in state from 4 p.m. – 7 p.m. Monday, January 23rd at Warren-McElwain Mortuary-Eudora Chapel (1003 John L. Williams Drive) in Eudora, KS.

Memorials may be made in his name to the Sunflower House, Safe Home or American Cancer Society and may be sent in care of the Warren-McElwain Mortuary, 120 W. 13th Street, Lawrence, KS 66044.
