Funeral services for Betty Jean Curtiss, 88, will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, April 5, 2017 at Warren-McElwain Mortuary in Lawrence. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery in Lawrence. She passed away Thursday, March 30, 2017 at Midland Hospice House in Topeka.

Betty was born October 27, 1928 in Lawrence, KS the daughter of Marlin and Ruby Olive (Fairbanks) McCrary.

She worked at Hallmark in Lawrence. She previously worked at Dillons. King Radio, Reuter Organ Factory.

She married Marvin R. Curtiss November 29, 1946 in Lenexa, KS. He preceded her in death April 8, 2008.

Survivors include her daughter, Barbara Jean Base, Baldwin City; son, M. Duane Curtiss, Oskaloosa, KS; six grandchildren; many great grandchildren; one sister, Barbara Alldredge, Lawrence; and two brothers, Dave McCrary, Baldwin City and Bill McCrary, Lawrence. She was also preceded in by her parents; one daughter, Nancy Jo Curtiss; one sister, Vera Hadl; and one brother, Harold McCrary.

The family will greet friends from 6 – 8 p.m. on Tuesday, April 4th at the mortuary.

Memorials may be made in her name to the Winchester Geriatric Center for resident’s activities or American Heart & Stroke Association and may be sent in care of the Warren-McElwain Mortuary.
