Lyman Aldrich, Sr.

A memorial service for Lyman Cady Aldrich, Sr., 93, Lawrence, will be held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, October 12, 2010 at Plymouth Congregational Church in Lawrence.  Inurnment will take place at a later date in Green Hill Cemetery, Martinsburg, West Virginia.

Mr. Aldrich died Friday, September 24, 2010 at Brandon Woods at Alvamar. He had been a Lawrence resident since 2002, moving from Michigan.

Lyman was born July 9, 1917, in Olivet, Michigan, the son of John A. and Belle Cady
Aldrich.  He grew up in Topeka, Kansas and Atlanta, Georgia

He received a BA degree in Science (Chemistry) from Oglethorpe University in
Atlanta, GA in 1938.

He served in the U.S. Army from 1940 to 1945. He was a Staff Sergeant in division
Headquarters with the 5th Infantry Division, 3rd Army in Europe.

Lyman has worked as a research chemist or technical supervisor at various pulp and
paper mills in Maryland, Virginia, New York, Wisconsin, Michigan, New Jersey and
Parana, Brazil.  He was a research associate in pulp and paper technology and environmental
engineering at Western Michigan University, Kalamazoo, MI.  He retired in 1983.

He was a member of Plymouth Congregational Church in Lawrence. He has been a member of  the Technical Association of the Pulp and Paper Industry(TAPPI), International Committee for Cellulose Analysis, Paper Industry Management Association and the Southcentral Michigan Planning Council.

Lyman married Dorothy Voris, on May 14, 1950 in Hagerstown, MD.  She preceded him
In death on January 17, 2008.

He is survived by a daughter, Jane Aldrich, Lawrence and a son Lyman (Skip) C.
Aldrich, Jr., and  wife  Roberta, West Chester, PA, and three grandchildren: Christopher,
Stephanie and Jeffrey Aldrich.

The family will greet friends after the service at the church.  Memorials in his name may be made to: the Lawrence Humane Society or a charity of the donor’s choice.
