A Celebration of Life for Alietha Helga Beckman, 101, Lawrence, KS, will be held at 3:00 p.m. Friday, May 10, 2024 at University Community of Christ Church, 1900 University Drive in Lawrence. The family will greet friends at 2:30 p.m. prior to the service at the church. Private entombment will be at the Memorial Park Garden Mausoleum in Lawrence. She passed into the loving arms of her Heavenly Father on Friday, May 3, 2024 at Bridge Haven in Lawrence.
She was born October 11, 1922 in Dodson, Montana to Alfred and Hazel (Scheflo) Aspvik. Her family moved in two horse-drawn covered grain wagons to Paddockwood, SK, Canada in 1926 because of the dust bowl. It is there where she met and later married William “Earl” Beckman on March 10, 1942.
Being a World War II bride, a month after their marriage, she followed her new husband to the west coast and north to the Aleutian Islands. After returning from World War II, they farmed with her sister and brother-in-law. During this time, Alietha and Earl opened their home to a foster son, Mark Butler. In September, 1963, Alietha, Earl, and family moved to Lawrence. She worked for Hallmark Cards as an Expeditor, retiring in 1984.
Alietha’s belief in Christ and her family have always been the main emphasis for her. She was always willing to share the love of Christ through individual acts of kindness and volunteering in various organizations.
Alietha, is survived by three children; Earl William “Bill” & Sharon (Justice) Beckman of Overland Park, KS, Christine Winters and Marilyn & Verlon Myers of Lawrence, KS; seven grandchildren, Martin & Ruth (Todd) Beckman of Michigan; Stacy & Eric Ruvalcava of Shawnee, KS, Kelly Turner of Lawrence, KS, Michelle & Jim Martin of Liberty, MO, Lori & Kent Miller of Leawood, KS, James & Jennifer (Adams) Myers of Lawrence, William Lee & Sarah (Smith) Myers of Austin, TX; three foster grandchildren, David (Barbara) Butler, Saskatoon, SK, Canada, Elizabeth Pyck, Regina, SK, Canada, Alethia Racette, McLean, SK, Canada; fifteen great-grandchildren, Cody Beckman, Allan Beckman, Joshua Ruvalcava, Gabriella Ruvalcava, Jacob Turner, Carson Turner, Travis Turner, Tanner Howard, Justin Howard, Cali Byrn, Ryan Byrn, Koen Myers, Hudsen Myers, Addison Myers, Jace Myers, and a great-great granddaughter, Kingsley Turner. She is also survived by her sister Gladys Kuzyk, Saskatoon, SK, Canada.
Preceding her in death were her husband and a son, Clifford, her parents and sisters; Helen Thompson, Myrtle Beckman, Alice Aspvik; brothers; Richard Aspvik, Victor Aspvik, Helmer Aspvik.
Memorial contributions may be made in Alietha’s name to Outreach International or Alpha Christian Children’s Home, Ascend Hospice and may be sent in care of Warren-McElwain Mortuary, 120 W 13 th St., Lawrence, KS 66044.
