Alyce Dray

Graveside Inurnment services for Alyce Elizabeth Abney Dray, 85 will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, December 21, 2009 at Mulhearn Memorial Park Cemetery in Monroe, Louisiana.  She died November 20, 2009 at her daughter’s home in Baldwin City, KS.

She was born July 11, 1924 in Birmingham, Alabama the daughter of George W. and Vera (Hodges) Abney.

She was a homemaker and volunteered for Meals on Wheels for a number of years.  She was a member of Swartz First Baptist Church in Swartz, LA.

She married Jack Patrick Dray in 1947 in Atlanta, Georgia.  He preceded her in death in 1983.  She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Cheryl Sue McMan and a brother, Kenneth Abney.

Survivors include her daughter, Patti Heiman and her husband, Tom of Baldwin City; a son, Patrick Michael Dray and his wife, Barbara of Brentwood, TN;  three sisters, LaVera Reed of Pinson, AL, Ruth Holley, Birmingham, AL, Helen Fromhold, Fultondale, AL; one brother, Clarence Abney, Mt. Olive, AL; four grandchildren, Alicia Braud, Kelly Braud, Abby Dray and Patrick Dray.

The family suggests memorials in her name to the American Cancer Society and may be sent in care of the Warren-McElwain Mortuary.
