Funeral services for Amos B. Birdcreek, 80, Lawrence,KS, will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, September 22, 2011 at the Warren-McElwain Mortuary in Lawrence. Military graveside honors will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery in Lawrence. He died Sunday, September 18, 2011 at Brandon Woods at Alvamar in Lawrence.
He was born August 28, 1931 in Weleetka, Oklahoma, the son of Lewis and Ida (Robison) Birdcreek. He attended kindergarten through seventh grade at the Euchee Boarding School in Sapulpa, OK. He graduated from high school at Haskell. He also went through the post-high school plumbing program at Haskell. He was a member of the Muscogee Creek Nation.
He served his country for 20 years in the Army National Guard of Kansas.
He was a retired teacher, plumber, and draftsman. He worked part-time for the Kansas Turnpike Authority for a number of years.
He married Valeta Tah on August 12, 1960 in Winfield, Kansas. They later divorced.
Survivors include three daughters; Gwendolyn Ramirez, of Lawrence, KS, Brenda Birdcreek, of Lawence, KS, Kimberly Birdcreek, Lawrence, KS, a son, Ben Birdcreek, of Tulsa, Oklahoma; seven grandchildren (Wesley, Shawn, Vincent, Jessica, Benson, Abraham and Emmie) and four great grandchildren (Kyle, Camryn, Hunter & Hailey). He was preceded in death by his parents and his three siblings.
The family will greet friends from 6-7:30 p.m. Wednesday evening at the mortuary.
The family suggests memorials in his name to the American Heart Association and may be sent in care of the mortuary.
