Anson “Burt” Campbell

Private family memorial services for Anson B. “Burt” Campbell, 89, Lawrence, KS will be held at a later date.  He died Thursday, March 28, 2013 at his home.

He was born April 6, 1923 in Petrolia, KS, the son of John W. and Martha Stone Campbell. He had formerly lived in Kansas and Texas before moving back to Lawrence recently after the death of his wife in Texas.

Burt served in the U.S. Army during World War II.  He served in Patton’s 3rd Army in Europe during the Battle of the Bulge and was the recipient of the Purple Heart medal there.

He was a retired branch manager for the Martin Tractor Company in Chanute, KS and then later in Topeka, KS. He was involved in the manufacturing of electric generators.

He married Ruth French on May 3, 1942 in Chanute, KS.  She preceded him in death on March 3, 2013.

Survivors include one daughter, Linda (husband, John) Suder, of the home in Lawrence; six grandchildren, Joe Jerome, Judy Odom, Patrick Jerome, David Jerome, Diana Jerome, Mike Jerome,  two step grandchildren, Lee Beth Dever and Amy Blake, sixteen great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild
