Arthur Turner

Funeral services for Arthur Turner, 63, Lawrence will be held at 11 am, Thursday, June 17, 2010 at the Ninth Street Baptist Church in Lawrence.  Burial will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery in Lawrence.  He died June 10, 2010 at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.

He was born September 23, 1946 in Vicksburg, Mississippi the son of Henry Plug and Sceressa Wilson Turner. He had been a loyal member of the Lawrence Community for over 40 years.

He received a BA in Social Work from the University of Kansas.  He was a firefighter for the Lawrence Fire Department and after retiring, he was a mediator for the State of Kansas.

He was a member of the Ninth Street Baptist Church.

He is survived by his daughters, Cassandra Turner of Atlanta, GA, Keziah Turner of Virginia and Ciara Turner of Bonner Springs, KS; three sisters, Louise Turner of Topeka, KS, Eliza Wiseman of Memphis, TN, Bernice Davis of Hollandale, MS; two brothers, Aaron Turner of Lawrence, Willie Turner of Mississippi; one granddaughter, Maya Turner-Jones and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, 5 sisters and 2 brothers.

The family will greet friends from 7 to 8:30 pm on Wednesday at Warren-McElwain Mortuary.

The family suggests memorials in his name to: the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation                  and may be sent in care of  Warren-McElwain Mortuary.
