Bertha Virginia Beach (Hepler) was born on October 8, 1931 to Henry Silas and Grace Virginia
(Temple) Hepler in Petersburg, Virginia. She passed away peacefully on February 11, 2021 at Baldwin Health and Rehabilitation Center surround by her family.
Bertha married the love of her life Theodore “Ted” William Beach in 1950 in Fort. Lee, Virginia. They married 3 months after meeting at a mutual friends wedding. They raised 4 children and remained married for 51 years until his death in 2002.
Bertha was a kind, generous, compassionate soul who inspired everyone around her with her strength and faith in God. She was so giving of herself to others, and demonstrated the love of Christ in everything she did. She will be remembered for her loving nature and her ornery sense of humor.
Bertha was a dedicated wife, mother and grandmother. While her children were young, and her beloved husband served in the Army she was a homemaker. When they settled in Lawrence in 1968, she went to work at Ben Franklin’s in downtown Lawrence. Later on she worked at Maupintour, first in the mailroom, and then as a receptionist.
Bertha is preceded in death by her loving husband, Ted, and her beloved daughter Terri Beach.
Survivors include her three sons, Bill Beach, Michael R. (Kristy A.) Beach, Mark A. (Susan C.) Beach, sisters; Peggy Cline, Judy Edwards, Carolyn Myers and Marilyn Lofgren, six grandchildren; Heather Rose, Shaun Rose, Ashli Olivera, Matthew Beach, Alexandra Beach, Caroline Beach, three great-grandchildren, Tyler Rose, Haylee Rose, Oscar Olivera; and on great-great grandchild, Zander Rose,, and many friends.
A memorial visitation will be held on Monday, February 15 th from 6pm-8pm at Warren-McElwain Mortuary in Lawrence. Please be aware that due to COVID-19 and safety precautions, we are asking people to respect and comply with social distancing and must wear a mask. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
Memorial contributions may be made in Bertha’s name to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and may be sent in care of Warren-McElwain Mortuary, 120 W. 13 th Street, Lawrence, KS 66044.
