Funeral service for Bill C. Hodson, 92, Lenexa will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, April 4, 2014 at Lecompton United Methodist Church. Burial with Police Honors will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery in Lecompton. He died March 29, 2014 at Garden Terrace in Overland Park.
He was born on October 20, 1921 in Worden, Kansas the son of Clarence N. and Ruth R. (Collins) Hodson.
Bill grew up in the Lakeview area and attended Crowder and Lecompton schools, graduating in 1940. At the age of 18, Bill served in the U.S. Army, 70th Infantry Division during WWII, 1942-1945. In 1948 he joined the Douglas County Sheriff’s office and served as Sheriff 1954-1956. He went on to work as a detective special agent for the Santa Fe Railroad for 25 years. He was a member of the VFW and Kansas Peace Officers Association.
He married Jean D. Baker on June 5, 1949 in Lawrence, KS. She survives of the home.
Other survivors include three daughters, Mary Beth Bilhimer and husband, Jim, Lawrence, Cathy Hodges and husband, Bruce, Lenexa, Karen Hodson, Lake Ozarks, MO; sister, Sharon Engel, Mansfield, PA, four grandchildren, Matthew Bilhimer and wife, Sarah, Sara Bilhimer, Laura Bilhimer, and Ashley Hodges. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Jill R. Hodson on February 4, 2014; sister, Betty Rogers and two brothers, Lawrence B. “Sonny” Hodson and Philip Hodson.
The family will greet friends 6 – 8 p.m. Thursday, April 3rd at Warren-McElwain Mortuary.
Memorial contributions may be made in his name to Monticello United Methodist Church – Mission’s Team and may be sent in care of the mortuary.
