A Memorial Service for Billie Jean (Dillahunty) Mitchell, 84, Lawrence, KS, is set for 11:00 AM, Saturday, June 13, 2026, at Warren-McElwain Mortuary in Lawrence, KS.

With heartfelt sorrow, we celebrate the Homegoing of Billie Jean (Dillahunty) Mitchell, a fun loving with a sometimes-aggressive personality. The kids loved her and always wanted to be around her. She would quip “I give them money and they will tell me their dirty little secrets.”

Billie, a faithful servant, sister, aunt, wife, mother, and grandmother, was born on October 31, 1941, the 7th of 8 children to the late William Ed “Buster” Dillahunty and Willie May Lowery Dillahunty. At the age of 12 she united with Jesus at New Hope AME Methodist Church in De Queen, Arkansas.

She attended West Scott Elementary School there, graduated from Sevier County High School Locksburg, AR entered Wilkinson beauty college, Texarkana, AR, where she became a licensed beautician. Shortly after she moved to Lawrence, Kansas, she met and married Robert Mitchell Sr. in that union a son was born, Robert Mitchell Jr. They moved to Oxnard, CA for 40 plus years. She worked at Facile, The Oxnard, CA, School District and Burrough Corp… before retirement they moved back to Kansas. May 24th, 2026, after 84 years, 7 months, 29 weeks, 205 days she took her last breath at her home in Lecompton, KS with her husband by her side. She knew it was time to take her rest.

She was preceded by one grandson Issac James Mitchell, 2 sisters: Elaine Davis and Doris Lindsey, 3 brothers; Cleophes, Wilbert, and Charles Sr. Dillahunty, parents, Willie and William Dillahunty.

She leaves to cherish her memories, husband, Robert C. Mitchell Sr. of the home, son Robert Mitchell Jr., of Lawrence, grandson, Josh Mitchell of Rio Rancho, New Mexico, one granddaughter, Jasmine Jean (Nate) Hague, San Antonio, TX, 2 sisters, Louise Dillahunty Johnson and Anita Martin of Lawrence, KS, numerous nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.

Sleep on Billie and take your rest, we love you, but God loves you best. It’s not a goodbye, its we will see you later.
