Bonita “Bonnie” Kay Reedy

Bonita “Bonnie” Kay Reedy passed away on Monday, October 2, 2023, at her home in Lawrence, Kansas at the age of 72.

Bonnie was born on September 21, 1951, in Alberta, Canada to Merle George and Mary George.  She and her family moved to the US in the early 1950’s.  Bonnie went to Oswego High School in Oswego, Kansas where she met her first husband, David Records.  They had two children, Angela and Jon, and resided in Bakersfield, California.

Bonnie spent most of her adult life in Bakersfield where she worked in the legal field for over 20 years.  She married her second husband, John Reedy, in 2004.  She was known for always being well put together, and for her joyous and contagious laugh.  Bonnie loved the sun and tanning.  Whether it was lying by a pool, basking at the lake or enjoying a tanning bed, she always had a golden tan.  She loved music, all kinds, and loved to dance.

Bonnie will be remembered as a wonderful, and kind woman with a giving heart.  During the last 10 years Bonnie prepared meals for the Salvation Army and for LINK-Lawrence Interdenominational Nutrition Kitchen in Lawrence, Kansas.  She enjoyed all the people she came to know there and loved being of service by providing a good, home cooked meal.  They all loved and adored “Miss Bonnie”.  She was an avid reader and enjoyed a good book, lots of books.  Bonnie had a strong Christian faith and was an active member and a good steward of her church.

She is survived by her children Angela Barnes (Larry) and Jon Records; mother and stepfather Mary and Dick Daugherty; sisters Nancy Karr (Bill) and Simone Daugherty; brother Bill George (Tish); six grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

A special thanks to Leanna Riley and Kathy Sanders for being loving, caring friends and caregivers to Bonnie during her illness.
