Calvert Dean Elliott

Calvert “Dean” Elliott, 88, Lawrence, Kansas, passed away Monday, June 16th with complications of dementia. He was born February 14, 1937, in Hutchinson, Kansas to William and Byrdie Elliott. He spent his early childhood in Hutchinson, with the family moving to Lawrence while he was at a young age. Dean graduated from Lawrence High School in 1955.

He served his country as a member of the Army National Guard, where he was honorably discharged in 1964 from the 137th Infantry.

Dean married Frances “JoAnn” Coffman on June 1, 1957. They had four boys, Rusty, Randy, Bruce, and Brian.

Dean was employed with FMC for 44.5 years, retiring in 2000. An avid outdoorsman, he farmed all his life and enjoyed camping, hunting, and fishing. He loved welding to the point he made it a side job. Dean was member of the Eagles Lodge for many years where he and JoAnn loved to dance and spending time with close friends.

Dean is preceded in death by his parents, his wife, JoAnn, his sons, Rusty and Randy, and his sister, Marjorie Clark. He is survived by his sons, Brian and Bruce; Bruce’s wife Heidi, and their three boys Brandon, Zachary and Nicholaus; daughter-in-law Christine Elliott and her sons Aiden and Avery; sister-in-law Judy Meyer; and loving companion Barbara Merritt.

Visitation will be Friday, June 20, 2025, from 6-8 pm, at Warren-McElwain Mortuary in Lawrence. Services will be held on Saturday, June 21, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at Warren-McElwain Mortuary. Graveside services will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery in Lawrence.
