Calvin Hillers

Calvin Henry Hillers was born October 25,1934 in Auburn Nebraska to Henry and Hazel Gerdes Hillers. He passed away in Lawrence, Kansas at home on January 12, 2018. He attended central school district #76 through the 8 ^th grade, and graduated from Auburn, Nebraska high school with the class of 1952. He was confirmed in the Lutheran Faith at St. John’s Lutheran Church at the age of 12 (oldest Lutheran church in Nebraska).

He joined the Air Force after graduating, and was stationed in Las Vegas, and then Korea for his last year of service. He married Ruth Fidermutz in 1957. To this union, three sons were born. Calvin and Ruth later divorced.

The family lived in Lincoln, Nebraska for ten years, where Calvin worked for the city. They then moved to Lawrence, Kansas where Calvin ran Oak Hill Cemetery for many years. They next moved to Stover, Missouri right across the street from his beloved Lake of the Ozarks. When he was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s, he moved back to Lawrence to be with his son, James and his daughter-in-law, Cheryl.

Calvin spent a good share of his free time fixing up old houses and reselling them both in Lawrence and at the Lake of the Ozarks. He also was a lover of geneology.

He is survived by three sons, Dennis Lynn, and his wife, Jennifer Dean of Ypsilanti, Michigan; James Arthur and his wife, Cheryl, Lawrence, Kansas; and Matthew David, and his wife Kate, of Euguene, Oregon; two grandsons, J.D. Hillers of Lawrence, Kansas and Joey Hillers of Sedalia, Missouri; twin sisters, Linda Kay and Mike Bailey; and Glenda Rae and Richard Burrow, both of Auburn, Nebraska, and ex-wife, Ruth Hillers, one niece and two nephews, and many other relatives and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents, his brothers, Harlan, Ronald, and David Hillers, and a granddaughter Kimberley Ann Hillers.

Calvin’s was cremated as per his wishes. Graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, January 19, 2018 in the Veteran’s Plot at Oak Hill Cemetery in Lawrence, Kansas.

Memorials Contributions can be made in Calvin’s name Stover Animal Rescue and Colmery-O’Neil VA Medical Center and can be sent in the care of Warren-McElwain Mortuary.
