“Canku Ota Pi” (Many Roads) Robert “Bob” Iron Eyes

Services for “Canku Ota Pi” (Many Roads) Robert “Bob” Iron Eyes, 57, Lawrence will be held on Thursday, February 7, 2019 at Warren-McElwain Mortuary from 4:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. with a traditional service starting at 5:15 p.m. He died January 28, 2019 at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.

Bob was born July 5, 1961 on the Standing Rock Sioux Reservation, Ft. Yates, North Dakota. He attended Haskell Indian Junior College in 1980 and was a singer for All Nations Singers of Kansas and the Black Hills Singers of South Dakota.

Bob loved the sacred Black Hills, Haskell, and the many cultural events at Haskell. He particularly enjoyed the annual graduation powwow where he would keep the fire for the Brave family camp. Bob was a hard worker and often volunteered at local social service agencies such as the Penn House and L.I.N.K. Bob chose to live a transient way of life and had many friends who chose to do so too, which made him well-known in downtown Lawrence. He also was proud to be a member of the Standing Rock Sioux Nation and stood in solidarity, from Lawrence, with the water protectors fight against the Keystone Pipeline. Bob often talked passionately about indigenous rights throughout Indian Country and believed in the vision of organizations such as the American Indian Movement.

Bob was preceded in death by his mother, Thelma. He is survived by his hunka brother Ron Brave and family, nephews Chase, Jamie, and Deno and other relatives in the Dakotas.

The family suggests memorials in his name to benefit L.I.N.K., the Lawrence Community Shelter or the Lawrence Public Library and may be sent in care of Warren-McElwain Mortuary.
