Funeral services for Carl N. Rasmussen, 96, Lawrence, KS will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, April 11, 2011 at the First Presbyterian Church in Lawrence, KS.  Military graveside services and burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery in Lawrence.  He died on Wednesday, April 06, 2011 at Brandon Woods at Alvamar in Lawrence.

He was born on July 24, 1914 in Kansas City, KS, the son of Christian and Mayta Christoffersen Rasmussen.

Mr. Rasmussen served his country during World War II in the U.S. Army of Engineers.  He served in New Guinea and the Philippines.

Following the war, he was a grocery store proprietor in Garnett, KS for six years.  In 1959, he moved to Lawrence from Chanute, KS. In Lawrence, he worked for many years at A&P and Kroger’s as a meat cutter. He retired in the mid-1970s.  He then worked part-time from the mid-70s to the mid-80s as a driver and funeral assistant at Warren-McElwain Mortuary in Lawrence.

Mr. Rasmussen was a member of the Dorsey-Liberty Post #14 of the American Legion in Lawrence, the Alford-Clarke Post 852 of the V.F.W. in Lawrence,  Acacia Lodge #9 A.F. & A.M. of Lawrence, the Scottish Rite Bodies of Lawrence, the Abdallah Shrine in Kansas City, KS, the Lawrence Shrine Club, and the Jayhawk Fire Brigade.  He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Lawrence, where he had served as a Deacon and an Elder.  He was also a former Past Master of Delphian Lodge #44 A.F. & A.M., of Garnett, KS.

He loved to travel and had travelled extensively abroad over the years. He also loved to play golf.

He was married to Louise M. Dargon on October 1, 1939 in Kansas City, Missouri.  She preceded him in death on November 6, 1996.  He later married Anna Belle Headley Page on November 16, 2002 in Baldwin City, KS.  She survives him and lives in Green Forest, AR.

Other survivors include a son, Michael C. (wife, Janet) Rasmussen, of Houston, TX, four grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

The family will greet friends from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday, April 10, 2011 at the Warren-McElwain Mortuary in Lawrence.

The family suggests memorials in his name to the First Presbyterian Church in Lawrence, to Grace Hospice, or to the Shriner Crippled Children’s Hospital-Transportation Fund and may be sent in care of the mortuary.
