Caroline Sue Hein

Funeral services for Caroline S. Hein, 82, Lawrence will be held at 3:30 p.m. Saturday, February 11, 2017 at First Presbyterian Church. Private family burial will be held at Highland Cemetery in Marion, KS. She passed away Wednesday, February 8, 2017 at her home.

Caroline was born August 25, 1934 in Cushing, OK the daughter of C.H. and Frankie Lee Atha.

She was a former girl scout leader, she was involved with Family Continued Education in Topeka, FCE, and Welcome Club of Lawrence. Caroline was an avid bridge player in both Topeka and Lawrence. She had many interests which included, Tai Chi, hot air balloon rides, bowling, dancing, and music. She enjoyed special trips with her Topeka friends. She attended Jayhawk games and trips to South Padre Island with her husband. Caroline loved being with her family and friends and she could light up a room. She never knew a stranger.

She worked in administration for Boeing in Wichita for 20 years intermittently until she retired.

She married to Robert H. Hein January 30, 1955. He preceded her in death May 30, 2009.

Survivors include her son, Robert Scot Hein and wife, Julia Walters Hein, Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada; daughter, Melinda Sue Hein Fish and husband, Gary Scott Fish, Lawrence; three grandchildren, Carly Sue Wittman, Brigham “Briggs” Lyle Fish, Mary Caroline Hein; and one brother, James Robert Atha, Henderson, NV. She was preceded in death by her parents; and sister, Patty Jo Atha Drake.

The family will greet friends from 4 – 6 p.m. on Friday, February 10th at Warren-McElwain Mortuary in Lawrence.

Memorials may be made in her name to Visiting Nurses, First Presbyterian Church or Charity of Donor’s Choice and may be sent in care of the Warren-McElwain Mortuary.
