Carolyn Wagstaff

Carolyn Campbell Wagstaff, 77, formerly of Lawrence, Kansas, died peacefully on Tuesday, April 6, 2010 at Village Shalom in Leawood, Kansas. A memorial service will be held on Friday, April 9, 2010, at 11:00 a.m. at Trinity Episcopal Church in Lawrence. A private inurnment will be held before the service in Oak Hill Cemetery.
She was born on July 12, 1932 in Kansas City, Missouri, the daughter of William J. Campbell, Jr. and Ardelle Britt Campbell and the sister of Margaret Campbell Fligg. She was a graduate of Sunset Hill and received a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Bacteriology from the University of Kansas. She was a member of the Kappa Alpha Theta sorority.
On October 9, 1954, Carolyn married Richard H. Wagstaff, Jr. in Kansas City, Missouri. She lived in Mission Hills, Kansas for more than 20 years before moving to Lawrence in 1984. While living in Kansas City, she was a member of the Junior League of Kansas City and St. Paul’s Episcopal Church and she was a former member of Mission Hills Country Club. During her years in Lawrence, she was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church, PEO, the Bert Nash Mental Health Center Endowment Board, the Countryside Garden Club, and Lawrence Country Club.
Carolyn was preceded in death by her husband, Dick, who died on September 26, 2006.  She is survived by her son, Richard H. Wagstaff, III and his wife Bridget; two daughters, Carolyn Gerwick and her husband, Charles; and Jennifer Arbanas and her husband, Michael; six grandchildren, Richard H. Wagstaff, IV, Britt and Hannah Gerwick, and Jake, Frank and Luke Arbanas; her sister and brother-in-law, Kenneth I. Fligg, Jr.; her sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Joanna W. Kline and Duane M. Kline; and a brother-in-law, Charles G. Wagstaff; and many nieces and nephews.
Carolyn’s family is very grateful to the staff at Village Shalom and the Kansas City Hospice for the gracious, loving, and compassionate care that she received during the last few years. Her family suggests memorials to Village Shalom, the Alzheimer’s Association, the Kansas City Hospice, or Trinity Episcopal Church and they will receive friends at the church following the service.
