The memorial service for Carrie Eva Lue Miller, 87, Lawrence, KS will be at1:30 p.m. on Sunday, August 1, 2010 at the Warren-McElwain Mortuary in Lawrence, KS. Private inurnment will be at a later date at the Mt. Olive Columbarium in Lake Havasu City, AZ. She died on Monday, July 26, 2010 at her home in Lawrence.
Mrs. Miller was born on May 22, 1923 in Marshalltown, IA, the daughter of William A. & Violet Holden Bowers. She had lived most of her life in Waterloo, IA and then in Lake Havasu City, AZ, before moving to Lawrence in December 2005.
She served as a Seaman 1st Class in the U.S. Navy (WAVES) during World War II.
She was a homemaker and an avid Jayhawk fan.
Mrs. Miller was a member of the Redeemer Lutheran Church in Lawrence and was a volunteer for the Cans for the Community in Lawrence.
She was married to Clyde Miller on June 16, 1945 in Alameda, CA. He preceded her in death in October 2008.
Survivors include three daughters; Linda L. Klinker (husband, Walt) of Lawrence, KS, Nancy Ann Black (husband, Doug), of Holly Lake Ranch, TX, Peggy Jo Wilhelms (husband, Lee), of Shell Rock, IA, a brother, Joe Bowers, of Waterloo, IA, eight grandchildren: Chad, Michael, Sarah, Matthew, Katie, Bo, Joe & Rachel, and seven great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a brother and her sister.
The family suggests memorials in her name to the Lamb of God Lutheran Church in Lake Havasu City, AZ, or to the charity of the donor’s choice and may be sent to the mortuary.
