A Celebration of Life for Charles W. Brown, 73, Ottawa will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, April, 16, 2016 at Centropolis Baptist Church, 717 Centropolis Avenue, Centropolis, KS 66067. Green burial will follow at 11:00 a.m. at Evergreen Mound Cemetery in Ottawa. He passed away Wednesday, April 13, 2016 at his home in Ottawa with the loving support of his family.
Charles was born July 14, 1942 in Ft. Lupton, CO the son of Charles A. and Anna (Baldwin) Brown.
At the age of two, his family moved to Centropolis, Kansas where he grew up learning to farm the land he loved. As a young man, he served his country in the United States Army for three years.
He was a member of the Centropolis Baptist Church. He loved farming and his cattle herd. Special memories were made with his family as Charley helped each daughter’s family build their homes. Later in life he enjoyed scrap ironing. As he recognized the end of his life was near, he put his wife’s needs first and gave up his farm to move to town where they enjoyed the rest of his life together. He will be missed by all his friends and family.
He worked for Hallmark Cards in Lawrence for 28 years.
He married Shirley Ann LaNier August 14, 1965. They were married for 50 years. She survives of the home.
Other survivors include three daughters, Betty Simpson and husband, Bob, Baldwin City, KS; Linda Eubanks, and husband, Ted, Ottawa, KS; Connie Tate and husband, Mike, Lawrence, KS; eight grandchildren, and three great grandchildren; three sisters, Agnes Richmond, Ruth Coppola, and Bess Oldham. He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Marie Sickler; and two brothers, Harold and Roy Brown.
The family will greet friends from 6:00 – 7:30 p.m. on Friday, April 15 th and also on Saturday prior to the service from 9:00 – 9:40 a.m. at the Centropolis Baptist Church.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made in his name to the Centropolis Baptist Church or VITAS Hospice and may be sent in care of the Warren-McElwain Mortuary 120 W. 13th St. Lawrence, KS 66044.
