Gibbens, Chester C., 94, of Glendale, Arizona, passed away peacefully on February 29, 2012.
Chester was a native of Lecompton, but during his career he lived in many locations before settling in Arizona in 1970.
He was a proud patriot, having served in The Army Air Corp during World War Two. After the war he entered a long career as a federal safety inspector for the U.S. Air Force.
In 1943 Chester married the great love of his life, Ruth Grantley, and they had four daughters (Dinah, Janet, Judith and Karen) as well as six grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
He graduated from Kansas University in 1941, where he played football and he remained a life-long Jayhawks fan. Chester was a devoted Mason and was especially proud of having recently received his 60-year pin from the Masonic Order.
Graveside services will be held at 1:00 PM on Sunday, March 11, at the Maple Grove Cemetery in Lecompton. A reception will follow at the Lecompton Methodist Church, 402 Elmore Street.
