Christina Shobe

A Mass of Christian Burial for Christina Marie Shobe, 41, Baldwin City will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, April 2, 2012 at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Lawrence, KS.  Burial will follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Lawrence.  She died on Monday, March 26, 2012 at Baldwin Healthcare & Rehabilitation Center.

This very special child was born on August 21, 1970 in Oberlin, KS, the daughter of Roy L. Shobe, Jr. and Ann Catherine Shobe.   She had Down’s Syndrome but was always “Up”

She loved her family and all who cared for her.  She loved coloring, Barbie dolls, Dr. Pepper,
and the Disney Channel.  Christy was always excited about babies, getting her hair done, and men in uniform.

Christy participated in Special Olympics and won numerous medals, ribbons, and other awards.  In 1988, she finished her schooling in Ottawa, KS.  She worked at COF in Ottawa, and after a move to Lawrence she became a production line worker for Cottonwood, Inc.  Christy lived at Roger’s House, her group home for many years.  She attended St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Lawrence with her family and loved to sing and give hugs to her church family.

Survivors include her father, Roy L. Shobe, Jr.; four sisters; Cindy and husband Don Whiteley, of Lawrence, KS, Becky and husband Wayne Cooper, of Edmond, OK, Debby and husband Terry Gunselman, of Lawrence, KS, Sandy and husband Terry Rush, of Oberlin, KS; four brothers; Ken and wife Janice Shobe, of Oberlin, KS, Don and wife Ellen Shobe, of Lawrence, KS, Joe and wife Marie Shobe, of Wichita, KS and Andy and wife Marcia Shobe, of  Fayetteville, AR; sixteen nieces and nephews; and five great nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her mother, Ann Catherine Shobe on September 24, 2011; a niece, Emily Shobe, and a great nephew, Alex Whiteley.

A Prayer Service will be held at 7 p.m., April 1, 2012 at Warren-McElwain Mortuary in Lawrence.  The family will greet friends until 9 p.m.

The family suggests memorials in her name to Baldwin Health Care and Rehab Center, Cottonwood, Inc. or St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, and may be sent in care of the mortuary.
