Celebration of Life Services for Charles Carter “Chuck” Hoag, 57, Lawrence, KS, will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, February 1, 2019 at First Christian Church in Lawrence, KS. A private graveside service will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery in Lawrence.
Chuck passed on Monday, January 28, 2019 at Kansas University Medical Center, Kansas City, KS. He was born on January 16, 1962 in Evanston, Illinois, the son of KU sports legend Charles Monroe Hoag and Donna Carter Hoag.
He graduated from Lawrence High School in 1980 and was a letterman in football, basketball, and track. He attended the University of Kansas. While at KU, he was a letterman in football and was a part of the 1981 Hall of Fame Bowl football team.
Chuck was an Operations Manager and worked for Black Hills Energy in Lawrence, KS for 30+ years.
He was married to Lisa Kay Mumford, the mother of their four children, on January 2, 1988.
Survivors include two sons, Chase Hoag, and wife, Caroline, of Lawrence, KS, Austin Hoag, of Lawrence, KS; two daughters, Taylor Hoag, of Lawrence, KS, Courtney Hoag, of Lawrence, KS; three sisters, Cheryl Hoag Gasiewski and husband, Rick of La Quinta, CA, Karen Hoag Kosbab and husband, Dave, of Overland Park, KS, Deanna Hoag Roth and husband Duane Roth, of Overland Park, KS; and his mother, Donna Dennis, of Lawrence, KS. Survivors also include two grandchildren, Solon Hoag and Eowyn Hoag, and 10 nieces and nephews.
The family will casually greet friends from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. Thursday, January 31, 2019 at the Warren-McElwain Mortuary in Lawrence.
The family suggests memorials in his name to the Williams Educational Fund c/o the University of Kansas Athletic Department or to The American Cancer Society (noting Esophageal Cancer on the memo line of the check) and may be sent in care of the mortuary.
