Memorial services for Clarence Robert Berger, Jr., 56, Lawrence will be held at 3:00 p.m. Friday, May 12, 2017 at Vintage Church, 1501 New Hampshire Street in Lawrence. Clarence passed away May 6, 2017 at his home.

Clarence was born October 2, 1960 in the son of Clarence Robert Berger, Sr. and Virginia (Shirley) Berger.

Clarence Robert Berger was born October 2, 1960 to Clarence and Nadine Berger. From that day forward, he was in the business of changing lives. Even though he passed from this life on May 6, 2017, his legacy will live on in those who knew and loved him.

Clarence would often say “I got lots of friends. I know everybody.” And if you took him out in the community, it was easy to see this was true. Clarence never met a stranger, or someone he was afraid to ask for a dollar. Although he was a friend to everyone, he was, what can only be described as, fiercely loyal and protective of those lucky enough to be in his close circle of trust.

Clarence could connect from across the room with a sparkle in his eye as he winked and smiled at you with his beautiful lopsided grin. He never failed to tell the women in his path how pretty they are and promised many gifts of diamond rings, flowers, and candy bars.

Clarence loved a large Coke from Sonic, hot dogs, big hugs, counting his money and spending time with those he loved. He loved his family, especially his sisters; his friends and Jesus. He loved shopping at Wal-Mart and Target and was always searching for new hats, wallets, watches, and rings. He loved dressing up and looking sharp. And he really loved when people pointed out how great he looked.

Clarence taught those of us who were lucky enough to know him what it means to love unconditionally. He taught us that a solid, consistent relationship can change everything. He taught us that sometimes putting on a happy face really can make a tough situation better. He taught us that when your song comes on the radio to turn it up and dance. He taught us that the best prayer is the simplest one: “God is good. God is good. God is good. Amen!” His final lesson to us was that when you really love someone deeply, it’s okay to let them go.

Survivors include his father, Clarence Berger Sr., Dallas, TX; his three sisters, Lezlie Berger, Gaye Madison, both of Kansas City, MO, Yvette Berger, Kansas City, KS; brother, Dustin Berger, Kansas City, KS; and cousin, Jamesetta Celestina, Kansas City, MO. His mother, Virginia preceded him in death in 1992.
