Funeral services for Curtis Alan Kastl, 58, of Berryton, Kansas will be held 10 a.m, Thursday, July 8, 2010 at the Mustard Seed Church in Lawrence. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery. Mr. Kastl died at his home on Saturday, July 3, 2010 of heart failure.
Curtis was born June 19, 1952 in Colony, Kansas the son of Calvin Curtis and LaVaughn (Williams) Kastl.
Curt graduated from Ruskin High School in 1970 and shortly thereafter served in the National Guard. He earned a pilot’s license and was a master plumber and contractor.
Curt built homes, hotels and apartment complexes across the country. He was co-owner of Mid Plains Construction, Kastl Plumbing and other business ventures. He was a long time member of the Alvamar Country Club and served two terms as president on the executive board. In addition to being an avid golfer, his other passions were tending to his horses and traveling on cruises with his family.
Curt is survived by Janet, his beloved wife of 38 years; his two sons Curtis (Alan)Kastl II of Lawrence and Caleb Kastl and wife Natasha of Berryton; his parents LaVaughn Kastl Peak and William Peak of Lawrence; one brother, Howard Kastl and his wife, Kim of Lawrence; three sisters Peggy Lasher and her husband Mike of Cispus Valley, Washington, Beverly Gossage and her husband Robert of Eudora and Marilyn Pearse and her late husband, Charlie of Baldwin City; thirteen nieces and nephews and a large extended family. He was preceded in death by his father Calvin Curtis Kastl.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 7:30 p.m., Wednesday, July 7 at Warren-McElwain Mortuary in Lawrence.
The family suggests memorial contributions to the Salvation Army and may be sent in care of the mortuary.
