Mass of Christian Burial for Dale Frederick Heiserman Sr., 89, will be at 10:00 a.m. Friday, March 20 at Corpus Christi Catholic Church in Lawrence. Burial will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery. The family will have visitation from 9:00-10:00a.m at the church. Dale died March 17, 2015 surrounded by his family. He was born in a rural farmhouse in Marshall County, east of Marysville, KS, on September 10, 1925, the son of Frederick Daniel Heiserman and Thelma Agnes Graham Heiserman.

Dale graduated from Marysville High School in 1943 and served in the United States Army in the latter part of World War II, 1944-46. He later attended the Southwest Photo-Arts Institute in Dallas, TX and then opened the Heiserman’s Photography Studio in Marysville, KS. In July of 1949, he moved to Kansas City, Missouri where Dale worked for the Kansas City Transit Company. In 1953, he moved back to Oketo, KS where he farmed for four years. On August 5, 1957 Dale joined the Kansas Highway Patrol where he remained until his retirement in February 1985. He then worked as a Court Security Officer for the U.S. Marshal Service in Topeka, KS for nine years. Dale belonged to the American Legion, Post No. 14, served as an instructor for several years at Cadet Law Enforcement Academies, and helped with Boys State on many occasions. He was also a member of the Kansas Trooper’s Association, Kansas Sheriff’s Association, Jayhawk Model Masters R.C. Club, and the Douglas County Amateur Ham Radio Club.

A man of many talents, Dale spent his days taking photographs at Club 36 (Marysville) during the Big Band era, communicating around the world on his ham radio equipment, restoring his 31 Ford Model-A, working in his garden, flying remote control airplanes, listening to music, taking wedding and portrait photography, tinkering with electronics, beekeeping, woodworking, and enjoying astronomy.

He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Charlotte M. Cudney Heiserman; two sons, Fred and wife Jane, Oskaloosa, KS, Gary and wife, Lynn, Lawrence, KS; two daughters, Linda and husband, Eric Schrock, Julie and husband, Kevin Allmon, all of Lawrence; grandchildren, Jenny Heiserman, Amber and Scott Rowland, Sommer and Cameron Taylor, Ben and Maegan Heiserman, Kristie Hazlett, Mike Schrock, Chris Allmon, and Alex Allmon; great-grandchildren Brayden, Adriana, Daisie, Cooper, Elijah, and Lukas; and brother LeRoy and wife Marilyn. Dale was preceded in death by his parents and three sisters.

Memorial contributions may be made to Corpus Christi Catholic Church in care of Warren-McElwain Mortuary.
