David Mckee

Memorial Services for David E. McKee, 90, Lawrence, KS, will be held at 10 A.M. Friday, December 10, 2010 at the First Presbyterian Church in Lawrence.  Private inurnment will be at Oak Hill Cemetery in Lawrence.  He died on Saturday, December 4, 2010 at the Lawrence Presbyterian Manor.

He was born on August 12, 1920 in St. Joseph, MO, the son of Joseph D. and Rose E. Dewell McKee.

Mr. McKee graduated from St. Joseph Central High School in 1938.  He attended St. Joseph Junior College for two years before transferring to Kansas University.  He graduated from KU in 1942 with a B.S. in accounting.

During World War II, he was an instructor in the Army Primary Flight program as a member of the Army Enlisted Reserve Corps.  Following that, he served two years as a pilot for TWA.

He left TWA to pursue a career in the grain industry, first with Wichita Terminal Elevator and then he served as the Vice President of CGF Grain Company in Topeka, KS.  In 1974, he became a grain merchandiser for Collingwood Grain in Hutchinson, KS.

He served as President and Director of the Kansas Grain and Feed Dealers Association, the Terminal Elevator Grain Merchants Association, and the Hutchinson Board of Trade (two terms as President).  He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Lawrence and the Mayflower Society.

Mr. McKee had an extensive stamp and coin collection and enjoyed refinishing furniture. He was an avid supporter of the Kansas City Royals and the Kansas University Jayhawks.

He married Shirley M. Snyder on May 22, 1943 in Kansas City, MO.  She survives of the home.

Other survivors include a daughter, Kathryn McKee Stover (and husband, John Stover) of Lawrence, and a son, Dr. Douglas E. McKee (and wife Margie) of Visalia, CA, four grandchildren; Dr. Mark Stover, Lawrence, Joy E. Stover, Prairie Village, KS; Meghan E. McKee, San Francisco, CA, and Kaitlin M. McKee of San Francisco, CA.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials in his name to the Lawrence First Presbyterian Church Endowment Association or to the Good Samaritan Fund at the Lawrence Presbyterian Manor. They may be sent in care of the Warren-McElwain Mortuary in Lawrence.
