David “Dave” E. Harris, 71, a beloved husband, father, grandfather and brother, passed away at home on June 5th 2025.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Warren-McElwain Mortuary-Eudora Chapel on Wednesday, June 11th from 6-8 pm.
David’s military burial will be at Leavenworth National Cemetery at 11:00 am on June 12th 2025.
Dave was born June 6, 1953, in Kansas City, Missouri, the son of Charles R. and Mary E. (Manchon) Harris.
Dave served in the United States Navy from 1974-1978. He then went on to drive a semi truck and was the #1 truck driver for many years. He completed nearly 4 million miles (3.8) without an accident and earned many safety awards, before retiring in June 2021. He took pride in driving a “big truck” and was loyal to his employer for over 38 years.
He enjoyed fishing, watching drag races (live if he could) and loved working on old cars, he could fix anything and would help anyone in need.
He married Mary A. Pohl on September 11, 1981, in Lawrence, KS. She survives of the home.
Other survivors include, daughter, Kimberly R. Lutz (Craig Lutz) two sons, Jason M. Harris (Andrea Dietrich), Aaron C. Harris; two sisters, Jean M. Day and Rita L. Buddemeyer and three grandchildren, Gage Lutz, Trent Lutz, and Mackenzie Harris
The family suggests memorials to the Wounded Warrior Project and may be sent in care of Warren-McElwain Mortuary 120 W. 13th St. Lawrence, KS 66044.
