Donald Lester Jarboe PE, 88, passed away December 14, 2016 after a long struggle with Alzheimer’s disease. Don was born in Iuka, Kansas on January 30, 1928 to James Ray and Charity (Geer) Jarboe. He grew up in Iuka attending public schools there and in Pratt, Kansas. He attended the University of Kansas and attained a professional civil engineers license. He married Doris D. Hill in Lakin, Kansas on December 23, 1949.

Don was employed with the Kansas Department of Transportation for 42 years working in Construction and Materials departments. Don and Doris lived in Lakin, Garden City, Olathe, Salina and Topeka during his professional career. He retired in Topeka, Kansas from the position of Bureau Chief of Materials and Research for KDOT.

Don was active in church and civic organizations. He enjoyed singing in church choirs, teaching Sunday school, and helping send missionaries overseas. He had fond memories of participating in performances of Handel’s Messiah. His last church home was Brookwood Covenant Church in Topeka, KS. He had a long history with the Boy Scouts of America, serving in many roles; served with the Civitan civic organization, and was highly involved with the shelter workshop in Salina, KS.

He is survived by his wife Doris of Lawrence, KS; brother Vernon Jarboe and wife Laurine of Topeka, KS; sister-in-law Betty Todd of Wichita, KS; sister-in-law Judy Hill of Lakin, KS; brother-in-law Jimmy Hill of Syracuse, KS; brother-in-law Tom Hill of Garden City, KS; two sons, Alan Jarboe and wife Kimberly of Sequim, WA; Mark Jarboe and wife Anne of Lawrence, KS; 4 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren; 10 nieces and 8 nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents, sister Alice Carter and husband Glenn, brother Albert Jarboe and wife Willie, brother James Jarboe and wife Louella, brother-in-law Edward Todd, sister-in-law Donna Hill, sister-in-law Diane Hill.

Services will be held at Grace EPC Church 3312 Calvin Drive, Lawrence, KS at 2:00 p.m. Monday, December 19, 2016. Private family burial will be held at Memorial Park Cemetery.

Memorials may be made in Don’s name to the Brookwood Covenant Church in Topeka, KS or Alzheimer’s Association and may be sent in care of the Warren-McElwain Mortuary.
