Funeral services for Donald L. Karr, 84, Lawrence will be held at 10 a.m., Tuesday, October 25, 2011 at Warren-McElwain Mortuary in Lawrence. Graveside service will be at 1 p.m. at Graceland Cemetery in Burlington, KS. Donald died October 20, 2011 at his home in Lawrence.
Donald was born on September 13, 1927 in Burlington, KS the son of John William and Addene Pearl Traylor Karr.
He served his country in the U.S. Navy during the World War II serving in the South Pacific on the USS Washburn.
He was a member of VFW Local Post #852 where he has held several office positions since 1950. He was also a member of Local Union IBEW #226, Topeka.
Donald was an electrician for Norris Brothers and retired from the local union in 1988. He later worked for the University of Kansas in the Electrical Department until he retired in 1992.
He married Elizabeth “Pearl” Knoblock on March 5, 1949 in Emporia, KS. She preceded him in death December 2, 1992.
Survivors include three sons, Kenneth Karr and Jerald Karr, both of Lawrence, Donald L. Karr, Jr., and wife, Cynthia, Topeka, KS; three grandchildren, John T. Karr, Travis J. Karr, and Erica S. Griffin; and two sisters, Lucille Reed, Topeka, KS, and Mary Ellis, Olathe, KS.
The family will receive friends from 7 – 8:30 p.m. on Monday at Warren-McElwain Mortuary in Lawrence.
Memorial contributions may be made in his name to VFW Local Post #852 and may be sent in care of the mortuary.
