Private Family Inurnment Services for Doris Jean Bryant, 81, Lawrence will be held at a later date in Fairview Cemetery in Coffeyville, KS. She died on January 10, 2010 at Pioneer Ridge Retirement Center.
She was born on February 5, 1928 in Coffeyville, KS the daughter of Eugene Stanley and Ruby Viola Matlock Dienst.
She attended school in Coffeyville and Independence Community Jr. College.
She moved to Chicago where she worked as a secretary at Billing’s Hospital University of Chicago while her husband attended Northern Illinois College of Optometry. They moved to Fredonia, KS in 1949. Mrs. Bryant was an accomplished artist who worked at Kansas Banknote Company and as a Photo Tinter for Blankenship Photography Studio while in Fredonia. In later years she worked as secretary for her husband’s Optometric Practice. At retirement in 2001 they moved to Lawrence, KS. Mrs. Bryant was a member of P.E.O. and the American Humanist Society.
She married Dr. Robert Hartley Bryant in 1946 in Lawrence, KS. He proceeded her in death in September 4, 2003.
Survivors include two daughters, Shelby L. Bryant and Marianne “Mern” Wildcat, both of Lawrence; one grandson, Hakan Daniel Wildcat, Lawrence; two brothers, Dr. John Stanley Dienst O.D., Newton, Kansas and Lt. Col. (Ret.) Daniel Wayne Dienst, Katy, Texas.
The family suggests memorial contribution in her name to the Lawrence Humane Society and may be sent in care of Warren-McElwain Mortuary.
