Mass of Christian Burial services for Doris Jean Thompson, Lawrence, Ks., will be held at St. John the Evangelist Church 11:00 a.m. on Monday, July 1, 2024, with a visitation starting at 10:00 a.m. Burial will take place at Mt. Calvary Catholic Cemetery.  Doris passed away on the 13th day of June, 2024, at Meadowlark Estates in Lawrence.

Doris was born on January 21, 1925, in Blackwater, Mo., the daughter of Henry Lewis and Elizabeth Irene (Esser) Day. She graduated from Blackwater High School in 1942, and had been named homecoming queen her senior year.  She graduated from Saraschon Hooley Business School in 1943.

She worked  for J.T. Sexton Company in Kansas City, Mo., from 1943 to 1947.  She also worked at Boeing Aircraft, Wichita, Ks.; Panhandle Eastern, Liberal, Ks. and Thompson Furniture, Lawrence, Ks. from 1975 to 1985.

She married Warren Keith Thompson on July 5, 1946, and he preceded her in death.

Survivors include her children, Joyce Burns, Carol (Tom) Supancic, Tracy (John) Lingenfelser, Michelle (Eric) Myers, Lisa (Avi Moss) Thompson, grandchildren, Jennifer (Joe) Sanderson, Katherine (Greg) Gustke, Audrey Gedera, Matthew (Hoany) Thompson, Timber Supancic, Cassady (Tom) Moll, Carcin Clinkscale, Erin Myers, Jason Myers, great-grandchildren, Koby Schrader, Bobby Gustke, Curtis Gustke, Jordan Petry, Ave Thompson, Emmy Thompson, and son-in-law, Bob Schrader.

Doris was also preceded in death by her parents, daughter, Gayle Schrader, son, Keith Thompson, all six siblings, and son-in-law, Curtis Burns.

Doris loved to dance, she traveled the world and was a fun prankster from childhood on.  She was a bright light in this world and the world will be a little less fun without her.
