Doris Kaiser

Funeral services for Doris K. Kaiser, 84, Lawrence, KS, will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, October 5, 2011 at First Christian Church in Lawrence, KS.  Private inurnment will be at Oak Hill Cemetery in Lawrence.   She died on Saturday evening, October 1, 2011 at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.

She was born on June 29, 1927 in Versailles, MO, the daughter of Ben Cantwell and Dorothy Francis Cantwell.

Ms. Kaiser was the retired executive director of the Lawrence Housing Authority and then she went to work for the State of Kansas and audited housing authorities across Kansas until her retirement in 2000. Following her retirement from there, she managed Prairie Commons in Lawrence for several years.

She was a member of the First Christian Church in Lawrence, the Lydia Circle of the church, and the Red Hatter’s Club.

She was married to Edwin Kaiser on August 5, 1944 in Olathe, KS.  He preceded her in death in November 1974.

Survivors include three daughters, Sharon Nelson of Lawrence, KS,  Beverly Young of Lawrence, KS, and Tammy Riesgo of Wichita , KS.  She was also survived by five grandchildren, Angela Hilton, Dustin Young, Amanda Riesgo, ShiAnne Young, and Joshua Riesgo, and three great grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 6-7:30 p.m. Tuesday at Warren-McElwain Mortuary.

The family suggests memorials in her name to the First Christian Church and may be sent in care of the mortuary.
