Ferguson, Dorothy S. (Stringham), 78, of Raymore, Missouri, passed away on Nov. 25, 2011 after a six-year battle with cancer. She was the daughter of R. Paul and Ruth Stringham, and is survived by her sister, Helen Fridblom, and brother, Howard P. Stringham.
Dorothy married Sam D. Ferguson, who survives, on March 16, 1952. Also surviving are daughter, Janice A. Lawton, (husband, J.C.), son, Paul S. Ferguson (wife, Deborah), two grandchildren, five step-grandchildren, seven step-great grandchildren.
Mrs. Ferguson was born and grew up in Lawrence, Kansas. She is a graduate of Liberty Memorial High School, and DeLourdes College in Des Plaines, Illinois. She taught pre-school, kindergarten, and first grade in Illinois, Oak Grove, Missouri, Kansas City, Missouri and Windsor, Missouri. Because of her husband’s transfers, she earned credit hours in eight different universities. She was, by all who knew her, a “gifted educator”.
Funeral services will be held at the Warren-McElwain Mortuary, 120 W. 13th Street, Lawrence, KS on Wednesday, November 30 at 10:30 a.m. with visitation one hour before the service. Private burial will be in Lawrence. A memorial service will also be conducted on Saturday, January 14 at 10:30 a.m. at Raymore Christian Church in Raymore at Highway 58 and Peace Drive.
Instead of flowers, a memorial donation may be made to the R.P. and Ruth Stringham Educational Fund, in care of First Baptist Church, 1330 Kasold Drive, Lawrence, Kansas, 66049.
