Eddie Allen Smith

Graveside Services for Eddie Allen Smith, Lawrence will be held at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, October, 16, 2013 at Leavenworth National Cemetery in Leavenworth, KS. He died Thursday, October 10, 2013 at Hillside Village of De Soto.

Eddie was born May 25, 1939 in Oakland, CA the son of Joseph and Genevieve (Nickos) Smith.

Eddie served his country in the US Army for 20 years until April 1977.

He worked in the University of Kansas facilities/operations department for 15 years before he retired in 2010.

He married Grace Peck on June 1, 1972 in Tacoma, WA. She survives of the home.

Other survivors include three daughters, Elizabeth “Beth” Mole and husband, John, Lawrence, Julie and husband, Renaldo, Rebecca Harvey; one son, John Ahearn and wife, Cassie Ahearn, Burkburnet, TX; four grandchildren, Marrisa Mole, Amanda Johnson, Anna Nicole Little, and John R. Ahearn; and three great grandchildren.

The family will greet friends from 5 – 7 p.m. Tuesday, October 15, 2013 at Warren-McElwain Mortuary in Lawrence.

The family suggests memorials in his name to the De Soto VFW Post #6654 and may be sent in care of the mortuary.
