Elaine Creaden, 83, passed away on March 12, 2022 at KC Hospice House in Kansas City, MO. A private Green Burial was held at Oak Hill Cemetery in Lawrence, KS on March 24, 2022.

Elaine was born on January 2, 1939 in Los Angeles, CA, the daughter of Donald M. and Cecille R. (Amann) Sherman. Elaine lived a full and happy life. She grew up in Van Nuys, CA and Grayslake, IL, and married David Edward Creaden on January 11, 1958 in Grayslake. After moving to Wichita, KS in the mid-1960s, Elaine again moved with her husband and children to Lawrence, KS in 1969, spending over 50 years in Lawrence before moving to Overland Park, KS in 2021 to be closer to her growing family.

After raising her three children, Elaine graduated from the University of Kansas with a Master’s Degree in Social Welfare in 1989 and enjoyed a gratifying and successful career supporting and counseling countless individuals and families in clinical and institutional settings. She cherished her time with her family, friends, gardening, traveling, reading, collecting stamps, and tirelessly supporting the growth and happiness of those she loved, one kind act at a time.

Elaine’s husband David preceded her in death after 52 years of marriage on August 2, 2010. Survivors include her daughter, Vicki R. Berney, Kansas City, KS; two sons, Charles D. Creaden, Las Vegas, NV, and Edward S. Creaden, Overland Park, KS; their respective spouses along with five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; and siblings Douglas B. Sherman, Richard A. Sherman, Dianne J. Nordling, and Barbara R. Argotsinger, and their spouses, children and grandchildren.

Throughout Elaine’s lifetime, she generously contributed to many charitable organizations, including support for the arts, nature conservation, and numerous humanitarian causes. Accordingly, the family requests that any memorial contributions to be made in honor of Elaine please go to Doctors Without Borders.
