Elaine Davison

Elaine L. Davison, 88, Lawrence, passed away on Wednesday, July 11, 2018 at Lawrence Memorial Hospital. Elaine was born April 25, 1930 in Webster, Kansas, the daughter of James and Anna Ruth (Chandler) Marsell.

She married Elvin Davison on February 20, 1948. He preceded her in death, along with her parents, a daughter, Marilyn Grant and five of her siblings; Helen, Eva “Bebe”, Jimmy, Charles “Bud”, and Judy.

Survivors include sisters, Pam (Steve) Saunders and Connie (Bob) Miller, a son, Tom Davison, a daughter Jennifer (Darrell) Hathaway, grandchildren; Virginia (Jeff) Simms, Lori (Randy) Stanley, Tracy Bruce, TJ (Sarah) Davison, Dee (Dean) Wiley, Miranda (Heath) Cummings, Andrea Halsted and Chayt Hathaway. She also had 15 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great grandchildren.

Aside from being a Mother to her own children, Elaine also helped raise her two youngest siblings through their teens after their parents had passed while also operating a nursery school/daycare out of her home. She loved those babies and was known by all as having cared for them exactly as if they were her own. Many called Elaine “Mom”.

Elaine helped out with earning income for the family. In addition to selling her crafts, she ran the bakery at Dillons during the 60’s, was a District Manager with Rubbermaid in the 70’s, and was a District Manager with Creative Circle and also worked for Southwestern Bell in the 80’s.

Elaine had a very active social life and was a life-long bowler in local leagues and sometimes enjoyed bowling on as many as four teams at once. She was an active member of VFW Clarke Post 852 and also Eagles Auxiliary #309, where she often held posts, was very involved in running the bingo kitchen and craft show for many years, and enjoyed participating in all fundraising efforts. She loved playing her piano and singing, and in previous years joined in ‘karaoke tours’ performing at the local elder care homes for the residents. Elaine was creative and artistic, loved to paint, sew and ‘craft’ and took special pride in her wooden Jayhawks, some of which can be found displayed in local establishments.

As per her wishes, there will be no formal public services. The family is planning a memorial celebration which will be announced at a later date.
