Funeral service for Elder Murvin Dean, 86, Lawrence, Kansas, will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, March 9, 2009, at the Mustard Seed Church in Lawrence. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery. Elder Dean died Wednesday, March 4, 2009, at his home.
He was born May 13, 1922, in Holler Ridge, Louisiana, the son of Anderson and Ethel (Sparks) Dean.
Elder Murvin Dean was the Assistant Pastor of the Church of God in Christ in Lawrence starting in 1968. He became pastor of his church, The Church of God in Kansas City, MO in 1971. He was a dedicated husband, father, pastor, and employee. His mission in his lifetime was serving the Lord and ministering to others about the love of Jesus. He also worked for the City of Lawrence Water Department for over twenty years.
He married Rebecca Demby on September 25, 1943, in Nitta Yuma, MS. She preceded him in death in 2001.
Survivors include three sons, Murvin, Jr., Texarcana, AR, James and Herbert, both of Lawrence; six daughters, Ethel Hundley, Lee’s Summit, MO, Teresia Garrett, Olathe, KS, Myrtis Edwards, St. Louis, MO, Mattie Neely, Lawrence, KS, Wanda Austin, Houston, TX, Janice Trotter, Lawrence; three daughters in–laws and 3 son in-laws; one sister, Eunice Griffin, Indianapolis, IN; forty plus grandchildren and forty plus great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Andy, twin daughters, one brother and four sisters.
The family will greet friends from 6-8 p.m. on Sunday, March 8, 2009 at the Warren-McElwain Mortuary.
Memorial contributions may be made in his name to Church of God Kansas City, Missouri or Douglas County VNA Rehabilitation and Hospice and sent in care of mortuary.
